  • Kilkenny City Macra Club Profile: Kilkenny City Macra, founded in 1946, is one of the largest clubs in Kilkenny with 42 members, split quite evenly between the genders from all parts of the county and further a field. The club is very active and members partake in all areas of Macra activities. The Club won the National Question Time in 2008. The team was Mary Brennan, Aoife Lanigan, Mary Drennan & Fionan Brennan.

  • Sports wise the club participates in Indoor Soccer. Members play games and train on mondays in St. Canice's Hall. The club also won the national bowling title in 2005. We also participate in volleyball & badminton amongst others. The Ladies Soccer Team represented the county at the All-Ireland Soccer Finals in 2008 & 2009.

    Other activities within the club include drama, debating, travel, public speaking, Miss Macra, Queen of the Land, Question Time and lots more. On the farming front the club involves itself with know your agriculture quiz, farm skills, stockjudging, welding and farming exchanges.

    However, the highlight of the Kilkenny City year is the annual Kilkenny City Macra Black Tie Ball which is the only black tie event in the national Macra calendar and brings together members from all over Ireland for a fantastic night of music, food and plenty of craic. Next years ball takes place on February 21st 2009 in the Newpark Hotel and promises to be a night to remember and not to be missed.

    The current officers of the club are Chair – Fionan Brennan, Secretary – Mary Brennan, Treasurer – Karl Marshall, P.R.O. - Aoife Lanigan, Sports & Competitions - Deirdre Brennan,

  •  Club News: The ladies basketball team of Mary Brennan, Aoife Lanigan, Deirdre Brennan, Martina Brennan, Mary Evelyn Drennan, Aine Darcy, Lydia Arm, Maire Therese Kennedy, Catherine Dillon are presenting the county at the All-Ireland Basketball Finals in the University of Limerick on 22nd March. The mens basketball team of Fionan Brennan, Karl Marshall, Stephen Gleeson, Brian Kavanagh, Mark Drea, Gearoid Kennedy, Shane Cullinane are also representing the county at the All-Ireland Basketball Finals in the University of Limerick on 22nd March.

  • Paulstown   Club Profile: Paulstown club has been active for the last 20 years.  During that time we have won many National and County titles.  Our latest achievement in this field was County AIB Club of the Year 2002-2003, County Volleyball Champions 2003, National Karting and Outdoor Soccer 2002 and Basketball in 2000 & 2004.  Other national titles include farm skills, sports and P.R.O. of the year.  We also participate in drama, speaking competitions, farm skills, Creative Challenge, Capers, D.C.T. and Indoor Soccer.   

Club News: A Paulstown member, Mr Peter Brophy won ‘Mr Personality’ which was interviewed for at the soccer blitz on the 20th of Feb in O'Louglin's Sports Hall.

 

Paulstown Macra held a Table Quiz on the 6th of Feb 2009 in the Silver Wier Pub, Paulstown @ 8.30 pm. We would like to thank those who attended, and especially those who travelled long distances.

 

On the 20th of Feb Paulstown Macra entered 3 teams into the on going soccer blitz in the community hall in O'Loughlin's Sports Hall, Kilkenny.

 

Ongoing events:

Paulstown Macra play indoor soccer in Paulstown Community Hall, Paulstown, Co. Kilkenny and Old Leighlin Hall, Old Leighlin, Co. Carlow on a Monday and Tuesday night respectively. Both games are played @ 9-10 pm.

Mullinavat  Club Profile: The club in Mullinavat was originally formed in 1947 and had closed on a number of occasions. The club most recently reformed in 2001 and has been going from strength to strength ever since.

Macra is a voluntary rural youth organisation for the ages of 17- 35. Mullinavat Macra is the only remaining club in South Kilkenny with a large catchment area spanning from Knocktopher right down to Mooncoin. We meet once a fortnight and meetings are lively and well attended by members which highlights the need for such a club in the locality

Club News: The main activities in the club include:

Competitions - public speaking, question time, debating, know your agriculture, welding, marksman and personality competitions. Sport - basketball, gaelic football, bowling, indoor soccer, pool, badminton etc; Travel - weekends away, adventure breaks, national competitions, foreign travel, work experience; Agriculture - Discussion Groups, information meetings, farm skills, training. Charity Work- Local Fundraisers, Quizzes, Fundraising for charity

The club had enjoyed a number of county and national successes over the last year winning national titles in Public Speaking, ladies basketball and Marksman and county titles in Question Time, know your agriculture, gaelic football and pool amongst others.

Club Meetings take place every second Thursday at 9.30pm in The Rod Iron in Mullinavat.

Club Activity Since September 2008: Gaelic 7 aside football county champions Team: Liam Aylward, John Paul Dungan, William Houlihan, Jim Holden, Maurice Holden, Tommy Holden, Brian Kenneally, Paul Aylward, Ritchie Raftice, Martin Raftice, John Woods. Four Club Members Elected to Kilkenny County Executive for 2008/2009 - Siobhan Woods, County Secretary. Martin Raftice and John Woods Competitions Committee. William Houlihan Young Farmers. Club Barbeque held in Aid of the ISPCC/ Childline Raising €350. Know Your Agriculture Quiz Team Ger Connolly, Patrick Dermody, Imelda Kinsella and John Paul Dungan

Indoor Soccer

County Bowling Competition held in Carlow Team Siobhan Woods, Caoimh Ni Hanrachan, Imelda Kinsella, Martin Raftice, John Woods and Tommy Holden. Mullinavat’s Susan Lynch Represented Kilkenny in the 2008 Queen of the Land Festival and a large number of club members attended the event.

October 2008 -Club Meal and Night Out in Waterford. Quiz-A-Thon organised by the club raised €640 for the National Childrens Hospital. Kilkenny Macra Christmas Party attended by the club. Mullinavat Club Christmas Meal held in the Lime Leaf Restaurant Waterford. Members took part in the clay pigeon shoot organised by Kilkenny Macra in December. Club Questions Time County Winners, represented Kilkenny in the National Final Team: Martin Raftice, John Woods, Seamus Farrell and Maurice Holden. County Miss Macra Winner 2009 Bernadette Woods

Volleyball and Basketball Training every Tuesday in the local Parish hall at 8pm.

The Club Attended a number of Quizzes in Aid of Kilkenny City Macra, Callan Macra, Paulstown Macra, Tullogher GAA, Mullinavat Parish, Crumlin Hospital, St. Senans Athletic Club.
